Gill Education, Ireland’s leading publisher of educational titles, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated editor to project manage its exciting new Primary English Language Programme, Over the Moon. The successful candidate will be an experienced structural copy-editor who will work closely with authors to improve and craft material to ensure it is of the highest quality for publishing. They will also act as the in-house point of contact for all authors, illustrators and designers working on the programme.

Key responsibilities/tasks

  • Project managing Primary English Language Programme, including all print and online content
  • Copy-editing, Word styling, structural/development editing and proofreading
  • Preparing design-ready Word files using styling templates
  • Preparing design and illustration briefs
  • Picture research/commissioning illustrations
  • Managing schedules for authors, illustrators and designers
  • Monitoring budgets and invoicing
  • Supporting the digital team to create high-quality digital content for the programme
  • Assisting the commissioning editor with submissions and reviews of text
  • Monitoring and maintaining the quality of content at all stages of the project
  • Managing copyright clearance where necessary

  • Third-level qualification
  • 2–3 years’ experience as an editor
  • Experience editing primary school textbooks is a distinct advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word (creating templates, macros, etc.), Excel and Outlook
