CLÉ Industry Awards 2005
Winners Announced 14 December
In 2005 CLÉ, the trade association for Irish book publishers, established an Industry Book Awards. The Awards were instituted as an initiative to promote excellence in the industry and are aimed at the technical and creative aspects of book publishing.

Publishers submitted books for consideration in the categories of Illustration, Cover Design, Production, and Publicity, as well as an overall category of Publishers' Book of the Year. The short-list for the Awards was created by a Selection Committee comprising Maria Dickenson, Easons; Niall MacMonagle, Editor and Author; Colm Ennis, Hughes & Hughes; Tony Farmar, CLÉ; John Spain, Literary Editor, Irish Independent. Book publishers, librarians, writers, booksellers, freelance editors and illustrators then voted from the short-list.

The Hook Peninsula

Designers: Kunnert & Tierney Information Design, www.kunnertandtierney.com

Says Kunnert and Tierney: “"Cork University Press was our first client when Christian and I started Kunnert & Tierney back in 1992.  Both Christian and I are very proud that 13 years later, we're still working with the Press. In that time-frame we have designed book covers, jackets, entire books such as The Honan Chapel –- A Golden Vision as well as catalogues and sales/marketing material.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the press in 2000, we were commissioned with the rebranding of Cork University Press which included the design and establishment of the CUP logo as well as the creation of a distinct style and look for publications. That project and its applications won two silver medals  at the Irish Design Effectiveness Awards in 2001.  This award from Clé will be the eighth award for work done for CUP.

As a design company we have always had a particular love for books –"maybe it's the knowledge that unlike a brochure or brand design, a book can live long past our commercial lifespan, that books can be a legacy we as a company leave behind."
