We want everyone to Know a GREAT Irish Book when they see one! During Great Irish Book Week 2009 we encouraged consumers to look out for our stickers and branding and to choose a Great Irish Book for their next purchase in bookshops - in return they received a fantastic FREE book, Be Inspired - Gems from Irish Publishing, with every purchase. This 208 page sampler contained extracts from 30 Great Irish Books and had something for everyone - humour, fiction, history, lifestyle, music, photography, crime, sport, nature, poetry, biography and graphic novel - all published in Ireland.
The Great Irish Book Week promotion was organised by Publishing Ireland and aimed to increase sales and exposure for Irish independent publishers as well as increasing footfall in bookshops nationwide by presenting a range of books for special promotion with high-profile marketing support.
The Great Irish Book Week took place from Saturday the 24th to Saturday the 31st October 2009.

Founded in 1970 as Cumann Leabharfhoilsitheoirí Éireann, or Irish Book Publishers' Association, CLÉ (yes, it's an acronym - not a word!) registered the trading name Publishing Ireland on 31 July 2009. The new name signifys the diverse ways in which the organisation represents Irish publishers, supports authors and helps develop our international reputation for the best of Irish literary and cultural publishing.

The conference was well attended by Irish literary and fiction publishers. The programme of events included two days of panel discussions and practical information seminars on funding and commercial opportunities.
