Romania may limit textbook publishing to only one state-run publisher

Romanian Education Minister Liviu Pop has announced his intentions to create an absolute monopoly for a state-owned publisher of textbooks. Pop has argued that this system would allow for students to receive their textbooks in a more timely manner; however, the Federation of European Publishers (FEP) has condemned the plan. FEP president Henrique Mota has written a letter to Romanian president Klaus Werner Iohannis claiming that limiting textbook publication to only one publisher will prevent teachers and pupils being able to choose between various textbooks, thus removing any competition between publishers to create the best textbooks possible.
