35th International Publishers Congress to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The 34th International Publishers Congress, held from 3–5 December 2024 in Guadalajara Mexico closed with an official declaration of commitments and the announcement of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as the host of the 35th Congress in 2026.

The official closing declaration of the 34th International Publishers Congress captured the discussions from the different sessions and focused on the commitment of publishers to copyright, freedom to publish, the responsible use of technology, sustainability and cooperation.

Hugo Setzer, President of CANIEM, the Mexican Publishers Association said: “It has been wonderful to bring this Congress back to Mexico after 40 years. Our discussions have been so rich and demonstrate the value of such events to focus our collective minds on the issues that will affect publishing for future generations.”

Gvantsa Jobava, President-elect of the IPA added: “This declaration will serve as a valuable guide throughout my presidency of the IPA. I express my deepest thanks to our Mexican hosts for leaving us with some very special memories.”

Sheikh Faisal Sheikh Mansor, President of Malaysian Book Publishers Association (MABOPA) said: “Congratulations to Hugo and team. The sessions here in Guadalajara have been very engaging. On behalf of my team, we humbly invite the world’s publishing fraternity to gather in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the 35th International Publishers Congress, in the year when Malaysia welcomes the whole world for our Visit Malaysia Year 2026.”

The 34th International Publishers Congress also included award ceremonies for the IPA Champion Award, the IPA Innovation in Publishing Award and the 2024 IPA Prix Voltaire.
