Dalkey Creates Short Story Competition

Dalkey Creates Writing Festival’s Short Story Competition is open for entries and the deadline is looming. The 2000 word competition has seen a large year-on-year increase in interest. Festival director Anna Fox and her team were clear, what they were setting out to achieve. ‘Dalkey Creates encourages and supports writers, and provides a platform for their work, so it was an obvious decision for us to start a writing competition.’ Fox continues, ‘we wanted it to be accessible and offer something writers would “really like to win.”  To achieve this, we knew we needed to offer a serious prize.   Supported by Bank of Ireland, the prize money is €1000, and the appeal is only enhanced by the additional possibility of having judged by a famous writer. This year’s judge is worldwide bestselling novelist, Monica McInerney.

To bolster the Prize, Dalkey Creates has teamed up with Books Ireland to publish the winning story in their January/February issue.

The deadline for entry is 24th August. All entries must be made online at www.dalkeycreates.com. The festival takes place 11-13 October and offers a range of workshops, an open mic, a writer-in-residence and a publishing forum, as well as a fun Family Day.
