eir Sport Sports Book of the Year 2017 is launched
eir Sport continues to recognise and reward excellence in Irish sports writing
eir Sport, with the support of Publishing Ireland has launched the eir Sport Sports Book of the Year, (formerly Setanta Sports Book of the Year) the third year of the award designed to recognise and reward the very best in Irish sports writing.
The eir Sport Sports Book of the Year will seek to find the best sports book published by an Irish author in 2017, or sports book with an Irish subject matter.
The winning author will receive a €1,500 cash prize and a specially commissioned trophy while €10,000 worth of TV advertising on eir Sport is also on offer for the winning entry.
This is the third year of an initial four year commitment by eir Sport to the awards scheme. Last year’s award was claimed by Kerry footballer, Kieran Donaghy for the memorable ‘What Do You Think of That? A book that went onto be one of the bestselling books of 2016. In 2015, former Dublin football keeper John Leonard was awarded for ‘Dub Sub Confidential’.

This award is about high quality writing and good storytelling and I call on publishers and authors to make sure that their book is in with a chance.’
All sports books written by an Irish author or with an Irish subject matter, published since January 2017 will be eligible for the award this year. Entries will be sought in September with the closing date for entries in early October. A long list will be announced in late-October before a short list is announced in late-November. The winner of the eir Sport Sports Book of the Year 2017 will then be announced in December.
