Module 3 – Understanding Unconscious Bias

October 14th – 10am – 12.30pm

AIM – To help participants understand what exactly unconscious bias is and how it operates.

This aspect of the programme is intended to help raise awareness of what exactly UB is in a working environment and how it can adversely impact that environment if not effectively challenged. The module is designed to help participants understand how their individual behaviours, attitudes and language can contribute to the creation of either a positive or a negative working environment. Participants will engage in an interactive video-based exercise to help them fully appreciate and Understand how Unconscious Bias and selective judgements operate in terms of the treatment of others in the workplace. Participants will explore the three keys to defeating UB (Tiedemann)


  • Help participants understand the difference between conscious and unconscious thought processes
  • Help participants understand how unrecognised UB can adversely impact the workspace
  • Introduce participants to a model for managing UB
  • Introduce participants to an interactive video-based exercise to help them recognise UB
  • Introduction to understanding Unconscious Bias.
  • Understand personal biases and areas of interest

Module 4 – The Neuroscience of Inclusion (DIEB Toolkit)

OBJECTIVES The module will introduce participants to a DEIB ‘toolkit’ and will demonstrate several skills to help develop a more inclusive working environment including

This module is designed to introduce participants to the impact that experiences of inclusion or exclusion can have on us as human beings. The module will help participants to better understand and appreciate the influence of inclusion or exclusion on our mindsets and to be better able to understand how to more effectively motivate and influence individuals and teams Following the module participants will better understand how our experiences and thinking to impact our day to day ‘states’ and well being listening more effectively

  • Understanding the power and influence of language
  • Developing more inclusive habits
  • Giving appreciative feedback
  • Understanding how to create effective ‘states
  • Introduce participants to the principles of Neuroscience as they relate to engagement, motivation, teamwork etc.
  • Understand how they as managers can more effectively influence individuals and teams


David Walsh has over 30 years of experience in working, training, thought-leading, strategy development, coaching, speaking, lecturing and facilitating in both the public and private sectors in Ireland, Europe, Asia and the United States. He has worked with executives from many of the world’s leading organizations. He has facilitated international business and strategic diversity programs for senior executives in organizations such as Amgen, Novartis, Medtronic, the Kerry Group, Northern Trust Bank, AOL, Diageo, Fidelity Investments, Volkswagen, Northern Trust Bank, BNP Paribank Johnson and Johnson, PepsiCo, Microsoft, AWAS, Symantec, PayPal, Facebook, Danone, Tesco, Dell, Unilever, SAP, Indeed, Tyco Electronics as well as a range of others.

One of David’s key interests is the creation of more inclusive organizations and engaged employees by focusing on developing an increased recognition of a holistic approach to change. He strongly advocates Appreciative Enquiry as a methodology for creating positive change. He is the author of Cultural Detective Ireland as well as Policing Pluralism in Cultivating Pluralism, OakTree Press, 2001. He is also a contributor to the recently published Mediators Toolkit, New Society, 2018. David has a keen interest in Neuroscience and the workspace and is a member of the Neuroscience Academy.
