Irish Books to Screen 2020
Want to see your books on screen?
This year, the Irish Books for Screen 2020 event will run online as a Zoom conference in conjunction with the Screen Directors’ Guild of Ireland on Friday, 22 May, from 3–6pm.
With this, publishers have a great opportunity to pitch key titles to a broad range of people from the film world.
As well as directors, we are inviting producers and screenwriters: together, these are the key people who make things happen, from high-budget feature films, TV one-offs and series for
RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 to longer form series for the likes of Netflix. They are interested both in fiction and non-fiction (for documentaries), for adults and children: they are Irish story-tellers
who want our stories!
While many arts industries are slowing down at the moment, the film industry is still seeking material for future projects, so this is an opportunity not to be missed! Last year 14 publishers contributed titles, and they and others came to the event to meet the movie industry in person. This year, we are committed to making the most of this opportunity and have adjusted the format to work online.
Each participating publisher will be invited to pitch two to three titles each in 5-minute slots with PowerPoint slides that will be provided as a template. The full collection of slides will travel beyond the room to Irish film industry people worldwide: it's a great opportunity to extend the reach of your books.
The first part of the afternoon will see the SDGI members being introduced, followed by pitches by Publishing Ireland members.
To get involved, you need to:
1. Let Orla (orla@publishingireland.com) know, by Monday, 11 May, if you want to take part and which two titles you would like to pitch. She will send you the
PowerPoint template to fill out for each of your books.
2. By Monday, 18 May, please return the PowerPoint slides, providing the following
contact information as well:
The name of the representative from your company
Contact email address / phone number
Website address
3. On Wednesday, 20 May, the Zoom meeting link will be circulated along with the full
brochure.
4. Log in to Zoom on 22 May and pitch to a captive audience!
This is a great opportunity to share your ideas with the people who can make it happen. Your pitching time will be short, and so you might want to focus on the key points of what
makes your titles noteworthy for film makers. Do please come along: this is a real opportunity to meet and get to know the people who put things on screens big and small, in Ireland and abroad.
In-call drinks are welcome!
