Sales Manager – Little Island Books


Little Island Books, Ireland’s leading publisher for young readers, is seeking an ambitious
and highly motivated individual to work as Sales Manager and help a small company at an
exciting period of its development to grow its revenue significantly.

This is an opportunity to sell high-quality, award winning books by leading Irish authors into
contexts including chain and independent retail spaces, corporate and not-for-profit
organisations, schools, and libraries, and to support sales reps operating in Ireland, the UK,
and North America.

Exact job title and salary will depend on experience and expectations. Compensation will be
a combination of base salary and sales commission. Working hours can be flexible and we
are happy to accommodate the needs of parents or people with other demands on their

Candidates must be entitled to work in Ireland and available to commute to our office in
Dublin 6 at least once per week.

This job would suit somebody who:

  • Has experience working in a sales role at a publishing company or in a similar industry, or as
    a bookseller
  • Has the ambition and drive to help power a small company looking to grow rapidly over the
    coming years
  • Wants to work as part of a tight, energetic team and enjoys being part of a small underdog
    company that punches above its weight
  • Is a creative thinker and will be excited about finding new sources of book sales beyond the
    retail trade
  • Has strong interpersonal skills and understands the power of networking and developing
    relationships with customers and sales reps
  • Loves books and wants to understand everything about the books trade
  • Works hard and quickly, takes pride in their work, but also wants a good work/life balance

Important interests and experience:

  • Experience in a sales or marketing role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A driver’s licence and access to a car
  • Native or near-native command of English

Helpful but not essential interests and experience:

  • Knows a lot about children’s, teen and YA books
  • Has a good understanding of the book trade in Ireland and beyond
  • Skilled at using Microsoft Excel
  • Has a good head for numbers
  • Is willing to travel abroad for work
