Little Island, Baby Teeth

Baby Teeth, a YA novel in verse and a study in queer desire and identity, by the multi-award-winning Meg Grehan, has been acquired by Matthew Parkinson-Bennett, Publisher of Little Island Books. World rights were acquired directly from the author.

Baby Teeth will be published on 2 September 2021.

Meg’s first book The Space Between won the Eilís Dillon Award at the 2017 Children’s Books Ireland Awards. The Deepest Breath was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, won the Judges’ Special Award at the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards 2020 and was selected for the Read for Empathy reading list 2020.

A poetic study in passion that uses the tropes of vampire fiction to explore queer identity and desire, Baby Teeth is a unique, lyrical and fresh take on vampire lore, that will surprise, charm and disarm the reader.

Immy has been in love before – many times, across many lifetimes. But never as deeply, as intensely as this. It starts when Claudia offers her a yellow rose. Claudia has never loved like this before either. But then, she’s never been loved by a vampire before. But a love like this can’t last. The forbidden thirst for blood runs deep in Immy. And within her mind clamour the voices, of all the others she has been, their desires, and their wrongs.

Meg says: “I’m over the moon to be working with Little Island. I’ve had the most wonderful experiences working with them on my first two books and I’m so excited to be working with them again. Like so many others, my mental health has suffered during the pandemic but writing this book helped me so much and gave me something to channel it all into. I’m very proud of Baby Teeth and can’t wait for the release in September!”
