Ireland’s premier independent publisher of literary fiction and Irish-interest non-fiction.
New Island celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022 and has, since its establishment, been a constant of the Irish literary landscape, championing the work of new writers while providing a stable home for more established authors. We publish a broad range of debut, established authors and modern classics, in addition to Irish-interest non-fiction such as memoir and history, and a long-running series of short fiction for emerging adult readers called Open Door. As a small independent press, New Island gives a personal development service to our authors and is particularly valued for taking risks on new writers or established writers trying to break their own mould.
Recent noteworthy titles include Nuala O'Connor's breakout novel, NORA (One Dublin One Book 2022 and shortlisted for An Post Irish Book Award, Dalkey Novel of the Year Award and Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award), PERPETUAL COMEDOWN by Declan Toohey, a highly acclaimed and exciting debut novel, THREE CASTLES BURNING: A HISTORY OF DUBLIN IN TWELVE STREETS by Donal Fallon (an Irish bestseller in autumn 2022) and ULYSSES: A READERS' ODYSSEY by Daniel Mulhall.
