Sean O’Boyle Passes Away
In what has already been a very sad week for Irish publishing, Sean O’Boyle, founder of Columba Press has died. Sean was very active within the publishing industry for many years. He worked for Veritas, and left to found The Columba Press. He was President of Clé in 1977-9, a founding member and president of the Irish Book Marketing Group in 1982 and also a founding member and director of CMD (Columba Mercier Distribution). Columba, and its trade imprint Curragh Press, was run by Seán’s son Fearghal for a period before Columba went into liquidation and was subsequently restarted as a new company by GraceCommunications Ltd.
He died on Wednesday 20 December in St Colmcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown. Sean will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
