Talk 1 – The Writing Process
Tuesday 7 February @ 6.30pm
‘The Writing Process’ is the first of four talks in the The Life Cycle of the Book series. The talk will cover the first stages of the creation of a book and will include discussions with experts in this area. Vanessa O’Loughlin author and the founder of writing.ie, will be the first speaker of the night followed by Ronan McGreevy of The Irish Times, and author of Wherever the Firing Line Extends – The Irish on the Western Front.
Publishing Ireland, in association with Words Ireland and the Irish Writers Centre is hosting a series of short evening talks on the different aspects of the publishing process, aimed at writers and the general public. The idea is to break down the stages of publishing, from the completion of a manuscript right through to the books being on the shelves and being discussed in the media.
There will be 4 talks in total, covering 4 different stages, those stages being ‘The Writing Process’, ‘Getting Published’, ‘What Publishers Do’ and ‘Reaching the Reader’.
Each talk will involve a panel of three speakers, all experts in their field, who will talk for 15 minutes with an audience Q&A to follow.
The talks will be held on successive Tuesday evenings, from 6.30pm to 8pm in February in The Irish Writers Centre.

Ronan McGreevy
Ronan McGreevy is a senior journalist with The Irish Times, and author of Wherever the Firing Line Extends – The Irish on the Western Front (The History Press Ireland) and a forthcoming book with the Royal Irish Academy on the official state commemorations of the Easter Rising. A former BBC and Sky News TV producer, Ronan was the founder of the Irish Times Century website, covering the decade of centenaries.
Anna Carey
Anna Carey is a freelance journalist from Drumcondra in Dublin who has written for the Irish Times, Irish Independent and many other publications. Anna joined her first band when she was fifteen and went on to sing and play with several bands over the next fifteen years. Her last band, El Diablo, released two albums and toured all over the country. Her first novel for young readers, The Real Rebecca, won the Irish Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year award.
